François Desgrez in the work by Anne Golon
(p. 298) Angélique looked at the newcomer with consternation. This - the Comte de Peyrac's attorney! It would be difficult to find a more threadbare coat, a more worn-out shirt, a more faded felt hat. The proctor seemed almost luxuriously clothed beside him. The poor fellow did not even wear a wig, and his long hair seemed of the same rough, brown texture as his woollen suit. Novertheless, despite his apparent poverty, he exuded an air of self-confidence.
(p. 320) In maître Fallot's small office, Desgrez removed his wig and passed his hand through his wiry hair. His face, which was naturally gay and spirited, wore an anxious mien. GOLON, Sergeanne. Angélique, the Marquise of the Angels. London: Pan Major, 1961. (p. 63) "Oh, he's a fine-looking man and very polite, but he has a strange way of looking at you. (...) He sniffed all around it as if he were looking for something with his long nose." (the innkeeper in Marseille) GOLON, Sergeanne. Angélique and the Sultan. London: Pan Books, 1963. |

(p. 323 - 324) There he stood with his square jaw and his brown eyes that looked straight at you. His shoulders were massive, and his dark-brown cloth coat, with a touch of gold braid around the buttonholes, fitted him closely. His tie, his high heels, in fact everything about him smacked of the capital, Paris, with its carriages and its blue nights. Angélique was so suprised that at first she did not realize the implications of this apparitian from her past.
(...) He was not wearing a wig. It reminded her all the more of how he had once looked, and although his features had grown harder still he now looked like the roistering penniless student she had known before he had joined the police force. But on the other hand, she was not familiar with the studied elegance of his attire and his self-assured movements, and the way in which he settled into his chair like a man accustomed to bearing heavy responsibilities.
His features had become more sharply chiselled than before. The ironical lines, now deeply set in the corners of his eyes, would now never disappear, and, even when he was not smiling, his mouth had a half-bitter, half-tender fold at each corner. But as soon as he saw her, he beamed amiably at her showing his cruel flashing white teeth.
