Timeline and sequences

The three sections of the cycle of "Angélique" which are titled: « Ces dames du Marais » (« Those ladies of Marais »), « La cour » (« The court ») and « Philippe ou la guerre en dentelles » («Philippe or the war in lace collar») have a different subdivision in the new edition, since « Ces dames du Marais » is divided into four parts: « Le petit marchand d'oublies » («The little seller of scones »), « Ces dames du Marais », «Une partie de Hoca» («A hoca game») and « Le beau cousin» («The handsome cousin »), while « La cour » and « Philippe ou la guerre en dentelle » only exist in the original version.

These parts constitute a sort of novel inside the novel. It is actually a completed and independent story, different from all the rest of the cycle both in the theme and in the male protagonist: it is the extraordinary love story between Angélique and the Marquis Philippe du Plessis-Bellière.

In the timeline, the most plausible dating was followed, by opting in some cases for the dates of the original version and in others for those of the new version, bearing in mind that temporal inconsistencies are spread throughout the narrative.
